Research Peptide Basics
Quick, plain-English answers about what research peptides are.
What are research peptides?
Research peptides are short chains of amino acids made in a lab for scientific study. Most contain between 2 and 50 amino acids. The catalog includes peptides, other research compounds and liquid supplies for laboratory use only.
What is the difference between a peptide and a protein?
Length and structure. Peptides are short chains, usually under about 50 amino acids, and generally don't fold into a fixed 3D shape. Proteins are longer chains that fold into defined structures. The cut-off is a convention, not a hard chemical line.
What does "lyophilized" mean?
Lyophilized means freeze-dried. Water is removed from the purified peptide, leaving a stable powder or "cake" in the vial. Dry peptides resist breakdown far better than peptides in liquid, which is why they ship this way.
What is a peptide blend?
A blend is a single vial containing two or more peptides combined at a fixed ratio. Check the compound amounts and batch documentation; a total blend mass does not establish each ingredient’s quantity.
What do the mg strengths on a vial mean?
The mg figure is the amount of peptide in the vial (for example 5mg or 10mg). It is not the vial size and not a concentration. Concentration only exists once a lab adds a liquid, and depends on how much liquid is used.
What peptide categories do you carry?
We group our catalog into Metabolic, Growth, Recovery, Skin & Hair, Anti-Aging, Cognitive and Supplies, each with its own color so you can find compounds fast. Browse every category from the Shop menu.
Quality, Purity & COAs
How purity is measured and how to read the paperwork.
How pure are Proper Peptides products?
Request the COA for the specific batch to check its measured purity and test method. No universal purity percentage is stated here, and a purity result does not establish sterility or safety.
What is a Certificate of Analysis (COA)?
A COA is a lab report for one specific batch. It typically shows the batch (lot) number, test date, purity percentage from HPLC testing and identity confirmation from mass spectrometry.
What is the difference between HPLC and mass spec?
HPLC separates components and can report method-dependent peak-area purity. Mass spectrometry measures mass-to-charge ratios and can support identity assessment. Neither test alone proves a product is sterile or suitable for human use.
What does "99% purity" actually mean?
It means the target peptide makes up about 99% of what the HPLC test detects. It does not measure sterility, endotoxins or safety, and it isn't the same as peptide content by weight, since a dry powder also holds small amounts of water and salts.
How do I match a COA to my vial?
Compare the lot number on the supplied vial with the report. A report for another batch is not evidence for your material; request clarification if the identifiers are missing or different.
Do the same peptides stay consistent when I reorder?
Consistency matters for research, so each batch is documented separately. Compare the COA for each batch you receive to confirm results.
Shipping & Delivery
How fast orders move and what to expect when the box arrives.
How long does it take to get my order?
Orders ship by the next business day, often the same day. Delivery time then depends on the shipping speed chosen at checkout, and every box includes tracking.
Where do you ship from?
Every Proper Peptides order ships from within the USA.
Do you offer expedited or overnight shipping?
Faster shipping choices appear at checkout where available for your address. Pick the speed that fits your timeline.
Will I get a tracking number?
Yes. As soon as your order ships you receive an email with a tracking number.
Do peptides need to ship cold?
Transit-temperature requirements depend on the compound, formulation and validated stability data. Confirm the supplied shipping and storage conditions rather than assuming all dry peptides tolerate room-temperature transit.
How is my order packaged?
Vials are packed securely in plain, discreet packaging so they arrive intact.
Do you ship internationally?
We currently focus on shipping within the United States. Contact us before ordering if you need delivery elsewhere.
What if my package is lost or arrives damaged?
Reach out with your order number and photos of any damage, and a real person will work with you to make it right.
Storage & Lab Handling
General laboratory handling. Not instructions for human or animal use.
How should I store peptides when they arrive?
Follow storage conditions supplied for your compound and batch. Temperature, solvent, formulation and duration matter; no single freezer or refrigerator rule covers every catalog product.
How long do lyophilized peptides last?
Shelf life requires compound-specific stability information. Check the supplied documentation; do not infer an expiry from dry appearance or from a different peptide.
How should reconstituted peptides be stored?
Use the conditions and validated stability window for the specific compound, solvent and formulation. This site does not establish a universal refrigerated shelf life.
What is bacteriostatic water?
Bacteriostatic water is water formulated with a preservative. Composition is label-specific; it does not sterilize a peptide or establish solvent compatibility. Our catalog offers a 30ml option; consult the supplied label and validated laboratory protocol.
How do labs reconstitute a lyophilized peptide?
Follow a validated compound-specific laboratory protocol. Solvent choice, compatibility, preparation and stability must be established separately; the calculator only checks mass and volume arithmetic.
What does your peptide calculator do?
Product pages with milligram strengths have a concentration calculator: compound mass divided by final solution volume. Liquid-volume and IU activity products do not use this calculation. It is arithmetic, not dosing or preparation advice.
Ordering, Pricing & Wholesale
Buying individual vials or wholesale packs.
How do I place an order?
Pick a peptide, choose its strength and individual-vial quantity, and add it to your cart. Sign in to your researcher account, confirm laboratory research use, and continue to Shopify checkout to enter delivery and payment details.
What is the difference between retail and wholesale pricing?
Retail lets you buy single vials. Wholesale pricing is private for wholesale clients. Independent resellers and partner/JV clients have separate programs; their terms are being finalized.
Can I get a custom bulk quote?
Yes. Labs, clinics and resellers needing larger volumes can contact us for a custom quote.
Do I need an account to order?
Yes. Sign in to a free researcher account with a confirmed email address before continuing from your cart to checkout. Wholesale pricing requires separate wholesale-client access; a researcher account does not grant it.
Can I change or cancel my order?
Contact us as soon as possible. We can usually change an order that hasn't shipped yet.
Why is a strength marked "Price pending"?
Some strengths are not yet confirmed in stock. We show "Price pending" instead of guessing, and list the price once it's confirmed.
Research Use & Compliance
Where the line sits — and why we hold it.
Are these products for human use?
No. All Proper Peptides products are sold strictly for laboratory research use only. They are not for human or veterinary use and are not intended to diagnose, treat, cure or prevent any disease.
Do you give dosing advice?
No. We don't provide dosing, injection or treatment guidance for people or animals. Our content covers chemistry, storage and lab handling only.
Who can buy from Proper Peptides?
Buyers must be 21 or older and purchasing for legitimate laboratory research.
Are research peptides FDA approved?
Our products are research chemicals and are not FDA-approved drugs. Statements on this site have not been evaluated by the FDA.
